You've probably found out by now that there's a gray bar across the top of the message that says "Click here to download pictures." As far as I know, some malware is active even in the preview pane in HTML email and not downloading the pictures is supposed to block it. This allows you to safely view messages in the preview pane without activating any malware.

I also don't like waiting for the Help to come up. I suppose this allows us to always have the latest Help. I haven't ever tried Help when not connected to the Internet so I don't even know what happens in that circumstance.
