I think JVPs question could be easily answered as the VS.NET team currently is working tightly together with the VFP team to incorporate more and more VFPs data features into .NET.

And yes, this is not an opinion, this has been confirmed from Microsoft from various persons (Ken Levy to name one).

So why the hell would the VS.NET team work with the VFP team so closely if .NET did not have any disadvantage when doing data and are not trying to improve .NET in this aspect ???
