Interesting Alex. My personal experience has been quite different. Not to insinuate that the people of some countries tend to speak more 'grammatically correct' than others or actually that the average citizen in some countries fails to speak grammatically correct, but I never heard por nada even once. Or at least I do not recall it. That includes speaking with the people here in the U.S. from Mexico and Puerto Rico, Latin American countries, as well as government officials in Argentina, Panama, El Salvador (well of course you have to consider where the government officials derive from in some cases), Honduras, and Costa Rica. I have always heard de nada. It is interesting to learn that it should be por nada. I will try that out with some of my friends and see what if they even notice it when I start using that phrase...
