Alex, where are you from, Buenos Aires?
I can not remember quite well, but I have in my troubled mind the feeling that I've heard half of my life "por nada" and the other half "de nada", and I live half of my "Argentinean" life in Patagonia (Santa Cruz, Chubut, Rio Negro) and the other half in Buenos Aires (and La Plata), so, it might be that in Patagonia we actually use the "por nada"? can't say it for sure, or it might be my father (He is from Salta) used it?
