To the best of my awareness, what you described is the only way to handle it using the Winforms dropdown control.
Some of the third party controls allow for multiple columns.
I seem to recall that on the Code Project (
www.codeproject.com), someone wrote a set of classes that provided similar functionality. If I recall, it was a container that,when you clicked on the down-arrow, would popup up a listview or something like that. I never used it, but as I recall, it looked pretty decent. If you go to their site and do a search on multi-column and dropdown, you might be able to find it.
