Not knowing from what perspective you're making this statement, I'll take a chance. I'm one to believe that one doesn't know the Bible completely until one understands the history and it intended context. One can't just read bits and pieces of it and make since of it.
I too was very cynical towards the Bible until I went to a "conservative" seminary school for a few months. And no, I didn't become a christian, much less a minister afterwards. It just gave me a different perspective on it.
