I wonder if the VFP installation might be fragmented all over the place on your HD? Or if some of it might be occupying a flakey track or two on the HD?
Difficult to tell either of these, of course, but if you run a Defrag/Analyze and then look at the report when it finishes you might see something in that.

I assume that you're running on the same machine as you ran the beta. If not, could there be A/V software impeding things? Or, also if now a different system, might a hub or the network adapter be forcing a lower speed?
